Mission Uganda
The mission of the Christian Drama School was carried overseas in July 2008 when Cindy Garrison, age 24, went to the Nansana Community Primary School in Uganda to help orphans who are victims of HIV/AIDS and 20 years of civil war. Cindy was age 14 when she first began performing in Christian plays as a student under the direction of Rev. Kim. The Christian Drama School sent Cindy to Uganda with 430 tie-dyed cross t-shirts to clothe the orphans that first year. For many children it was the only new shirt they had ever received.
Cindy returned with a passionate plea to the Christian Drama School family to help the children of Uganda. Her fiery spirit inspired Rev. Kim to write “According to Africa” in 2009 and “Heart for Uganda” in 2012. Representatives of the Christian Drama School have visited Uganda every year since then and the school and its supporters have sent more than $120,000 to help the children of Uganda. A large portion of that money helped Segawa Ephraim purchase land and build a secondary school at Namayumba, Uganda. More than 100 students now live and study there, many of whom are sponsored by Christian Drama School families and friends.

Heart for People
The passion felt by Cindy after visiting Uganda has been shared by each of our missionaries who have followed her there. Seeing the success of the relationship between the Christian Drama School and Segawa, Sarah Harrs was inspired to start a non-profit organization, the Heart for People Foundation, to connect other schools and groups in the United States with schools in Uganda. Heart for People now supports four schools in Uganda, providing direct aid and helping to build a community of Americans with a passion to change the world.
Read to Roof
In 2012, Cindy, now an elementary school teacher at Harding Elementary School in Kenilworth, N.J., initiated the "Read to Roof " program in her second grade class. Students find sponsors who agree to pay them to read for a set amount of time. The donated money is then used to fund a specific project such as paying to put a roof on a school. The program is designed to engage, educate, and connect school-age American children with children in Uganda. "Read to Roof" lets American students see beyond their own lives. They build their reading skills while helping Ugandan school children in need. For more information, click on the icon at right.
